December 9, 2008 (Tuesday), Engaging Students with Smart Board Technology at Cranston High School West Library (directions), 3:45 - 5:45 pm. As Library Media Specialist and teachers in the 21st Century we strive to enhance learning and engage students through using new technologies. Smart Boards are one of the teaching tools being used to excite students in libraries and classrooms across the country. Presented by P.J. Muer of Ambient Sound, this workshop will demonstrate how you can use a Smart Board to engage your students in hands-on and minds-on learning activities. Plan to bring a teacher as a guest to share the fun and generate ideas to take back to your school.
January 12, 2009 (Monday), Teaching Research Skills at Winman Jr. High School (directions), 3:45 - 5:45 pm. Presented by Darshell Silva, LMS, Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program. As information specialists we understand the importance of research to lifelong learning and student achievement, but how do we decide what research process is the best for our patrons? This workshop examines various research processes, how to select the one that meets your student’s needs, the steps necessary to implement its use, and suggested strategies for school-wide teaching. Plan to attend this important workshop and bring along a teacher from your school to begin collaboration.

Generating reports, using Lexiles, managing AV, teaching WebPath Express, creating Resource Lists, cataloging, so much to learn and so little time. Here is your chance to learn more about Destiny Library Manager and all its potential. This is a series of question and answer sessions designed for you to get the information you need to better manage your library resources and patrons. The sessions will be held throughout Rhode Island so that all RILINK members have a chance to attend one or more programs in the series. Write down those questions and mark your calendar.

March 12, 2009 (Thursday), Follett Destiny Q & A at Stadium School Library, 100 Crescent Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910, 3:45-5:45 pm. (See January 26th program for description.)
March 23, 2009 (Monday), Video Streaming in the Library Media Center and Classroom at Cranston West High School (directions), 3:45-5:45 pm. Presented by María D. Velásquez de Tondreau, Executive Director, RI PBS. Video streaming uses technology to place instructional tools in the hands of teachers and students through viewing video over the Internet. It enables real time, or on demand use of audio, video and multimedia in support of teaching and learning. During this workshop you can create an account to access video streaming though WSBE Rhode Island PBS. It also provides instruction for searching videos and clips in English and Spanish and historical speeches. Training will include how to play, download, and save videos and access lesson plans, teacher guides, student activities and more.
